This site is dedicated to taking one breath at a time. I picked a layout that was bright and cheery.
I have been fighting severe Bronchiectasis, an obstructive lung disease, for about 10 years. At one time my FEV1 was down to 21 percent. It is now back in the 40% plus range. I started the project that became the lung resource site a year after I was listed for a double lung transplant. I am no longer on the transplant list. I thought I would add a site to talk about managing your air or breathing - ONE BREATH at a time.
Why - well I realized a few months ago how good I had become at compensating for my decreased ability to move air. I tried snorkeling in Cancun. At the time I had some severe allergy problems. I could not manage my air. I could not compensate. I then realized that I had become so good at it, that I often do it without thinking. With a tube attached to my mouth, I did not have the control I needed. I panicked. I headed back to the boat and called it a session. Since then I have given it a lot of thought. Over the next few weeks and months, I will be building this site to share my ideas, and those of others, on managing our breathing.
